City U of Seattle Faculty Member and Student Present Paper at Education Conference

Friday, June 15, 2007
City University of Seattle Associate Faculty member in Vancouver, B.C.
Dr. Avraham Cohen and M. A. Psychology counselling student June Wong recently presented their paper titled, “What Actually Goes on in the Hearts and Minds of a Student and a Teacher” at the 10th Annual, Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia conference, “Investigating our Practices.”

Cohen and Wong developed a strong student-teacher relationship and decided to create a paper on the subject of teacher-student relationships that was based on their personal experience.

“I believe that highly collaborative and collegial relationships are possible between students and teachers, even while respecting the necessary boundaries, and that such relationships can be rewarding for both,” comments Dr. Avraham Cohen.  “The paper June and I created along with its successful presentation at a prestigious academic conference is certainly an example of what can come out this type of student-teacher relationship.”

For their paper, Cohen and Wong investigated the nature and practice of their student-teacher relationship within the educational context of mass schooling, instruction, and training for job readiness.  They were particularly focused on the inner experience, and its translation into practice and the evolving unique relationship between the student and teacher.

The paper was presented to a standing room-only audience.
