From CityU’s Alumni Director It’s that time of year both locally and across the globe. Whether you find yourself in Prague, Pravets, Athens, Bratislava, or Seattle one can’t help but notice the sense of accomplishment as hard-working scholars transition into life’s next chapter. Graduation ceremonies—with the formal conferral of degrees by the university—allow us to recognize those who have triumphed in the quest for knowledge by overcoming many obstacles. At CityU, students face challenges that reach beyond traditional classroom demands. These days, you’ll find more and more people striving to earn an undergraduate or graduate degree while balancing career and/or family. It’s becoming more commonplace for international students to succeed academically even with the additional obstacle of adjusting to a new culture and/or learning a new language. The ability to achieve under such demanding circumstances is, however, anything but routine. CityU students—with backgrounds and triumphs that are anything but ordinary—represent the best of the extraordinary. We celebrate our graduates at this time of year because we are so very proud of their strength of purpose. Join me in congratulating our newest members of the City University of Seattle Alumni Association.
